The politics of fear. Both presidential candidates claim the other is playing to the fear of the voters. Whether intentional or not, they are right. But not in the way they mean it. I've never seen an election like this one. I think that neither candidate has the true support of the majority of people who will vote for them. It’s more of a fear of the other candidate being elected. Unfortunately, that type of fear drives an even bigger wedge between people. As a result, we are, indeed, a more divisive nation than in any other election I can remember. I think fear is driving us.
But there is a fear that can, and will, unite us: The fear of God. Psalm 111:10 (NIV) says “ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise”. I know people get tired of us religious folks saying that God is the only hope for our nation….but it is true. Honestly, I don’t trust either candidate to keep all the promises he/she is making. But I do trust God to keep all of His. No matter who is elected, if we don’t begin honoring God again, this nation will continue its current path.
So I'm going to vote, but I'm placing my Hope is Christ. No matter what world I live in, Christ will live in me. God is sovereign; He alone is my refuge.
