Last week I was told that, because I’m a Christian, I don’t give a (bad word) about children after they are born; that I don’t care if they have food or medical care. I asked that person why she thought that. She never replied. That’s interesting isn’t it? Where does a person go to get that kind of miss-information about Christians?
I think, first of all, the old adage that if you tell a lie often enough it becomes the truth is spot on. That lie has been put in front of the public by each and every atheist group ever since Roe vs. Wade. The recent “women’s marches” speakers and rabble rousers pound it into the frenzied mobs. That mainstream news organizations let it go unchallenged any time it is espoused. So, yes, I can see how people who hate Christians will grasp those straws and run with them at every opportunity.
But we may have to shoulder some of the blame for our actions. First, do we care enough about the children we help save from abortion? James 1:27 says “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” I appreciate the offering we take for the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries and the time and effort we put into Sav-A-Life and especially the Green Springs Food Ministry. Remember to give generously to those and other ministries that take care of children.
But let’s also remember to react with love to those who oppose us and misunderstand us and our purpose. It’s difficult to hold back the primal urge to sink to their level of name-calling. Honestly, I had to change the language of my response several times to edit my sarcasm and anger. A mean-spirited reply only deepens their perception of us as “haters”.
Don’t despair, though. Opposing abortion on demand is the right thing to do, no matter the reaction of a world that has lost all moral compass and thus doesn’t recognize the true sanctity of human life. Keep up the good work.
