Thanks to a wonderful, loving, and generous church family the material things we lost when our home was robbed have been replaced. Angie and I are humbled by your unbelievable display of love and care for us. It’s almost as if it never happened. Almost.
There are little white boxes attached to all our doors that are connected to a system that will send a message to my phone if those doors are opened when we are not home. Likewise, there is a motion detector in our basement and an actual siren in the hallway. Each one is a visible sign and reminder that it did happen. And….a constant reminder that I should have been better prepared. If the alarm system had been set up earlier, the whole thing could have been prevented. There is an old saying that has always been proven right: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
The very same thing holds true for our spiritual lives. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) warns us that there is danger “out there” and we need to prepare. Peter writes, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”. But there is one thing different that makes it even more dangerous: With Satan it is personal. My thieves just wanted my things…they didn’t know me or want to hurt me in particular. Satan knows you and wants to hurt you! You are made in the image of God and because he hates God he hates you.
Be vigilant. Be aware. Study your Bible, fellowship with Christian friends as much as possible, and stay away from situations where temptation can find you. An ounce of prevention……….
Say good things about your Savior and about His church here at Bluff Park!
