If I were to ask you how often you have had the opportunity to “witness” to someone you would probably say that is it extremely rare if, indeed, you have ever had that opportunity. I believe we have all had, and will have, many opportunities to be a witness for what Christ has done in your life.
Colossians 4:5-6 says “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone”. That is not just good advice, it is a command.
In our everyday dealings with everyone in our lives we are to exhibit the character of Christ. That includes His compassion and his mercy. Sure we will encounter rude people in life. We will be put out, infringed upon, and annoyed. People will treat us with indifference and carelessness; they will behave selfishly. Those are opportunities. They are opportunities to speak with grace and to season our conversation with salt. Those are the times when we interact with “outsiders” and we should be careful to show them how a Christian, a follower of Jesus, acts and reacts toward people.
I know what some will think, but rest assured that when Jesus turned over tables and brandished a whip it wasn’t because a cashier got out of sorts with Him or someone bumped into Him and didn’t say “excuse me”. We are to treat every encounter with people as, at the very least, an opportunity to show grace and compassion. As the song says; “let others see Jesus in you”.
Say good things about your Savior and about His church here at Bluff Park!
