I was challenged last week to quote where Jesus specifically said that homosexuality was wrong. I pointed him to Mark 10:6-8 (NIV) where Jesus said “But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one.” His reply? “No. I said specifically. He did not use the word homosexuality”.
Now, I could have spent a lot of time explaining that Jesus certainly inferred two sexes and those two being married because the idea of a third sex or many genders existing was (and still is, in my opinion) ridiculous. Or how Jesus and the Father and the Spirit are one and the same so if any part of the Bible condemns it, it bears equal weight. But I knew he would close his ears to either of those truths.
So I just mentioned a few other things that Jesus didn’t specifically condemn but that basic common sense and human decency does. You see, Jesus never said that bestiality or pedophilia was wrong; I never once read those words coming from His mouth. Nor did He ever say the words pornography or incest. There were no theological debates or civil controversy about any of those things. Everyone knew that, even though people did practice them in secret, they were morally and ethically wrong. In fact, had people been wrongly chastised for practicing any of those things I believe Jesus would have spoken out. His silence speaks volumes to anyone truly seeking His wisdom on those matters.
In the meantime, please remember that God’s tremendous love flows to all sinners. We are to treat everyone with dignity and respect no matter how much they disagree with us.
