Vacation Bible School begins Sunday, June 11. I hope you have been in prayer for that week of intense effort. Many of you are involved and I know that you have been planning and working already. It is a tough week for workers but one of the most rewarding ministries of the local church. VBS presents a once-a-year opportunity for us to meet people in our community. Many are involved in other churches already, but some are in that “un-churched” group; VBS is one of the best outreach efforts of our church. Pray fervently for God’s blessing.
On another note of opportunity, we have re-scheduled our church picnic to Saturday, August 26th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. We are adding a twist this time, though. We will rent the giant water slide we have used in the past for our “Splash Bash” and invite our community to join us! We won’t have water guns, water balloons, or other wet activities so everyone will remain reasonably dry. The slide, however, should draw community families with children and give us a chance to meet each other in a time of fun activity and fellowship. We’ll have games like horseshoes and corn-hole, too, so I’m thinking it will be a blast. Please mark your calendars and begin inviting neighbors and family!
Also, please redouble your prayers for our nation. I’m no alarmist, but I’ve never seen so much animosity between ideologies in our nation. In fact, I never expected that it would happen in these United States. We are supposed to be civilized people who settle differences peaceably and exercise our opinion and desires at the ballot box. That some people felt (and still feel) that rioting is the answer to a political loss, is beyond me. As always, I believe the answer will be found in the confines of a relationship with Christ. Our nation needs Him now more than ever. Let’s do our best to help people find the peace of Christ. That will surely help bring about peace in our nation
