When we look around at some of the things that are going on in our nation I am reminded of Proverbs 29:18 (NIV) where God tells us “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint”. Let me paraphrase that: When people don’t listen to God, anything goes. And I mean anything. The Bible has, for hundreds of years, been the moral compass of mankind. It has guided our thinking and directed our paths in so many ways. It gave order to society. In other words, it told us where to draw the lines.
And here’s, the thing: There has to be lines. Everyone draws lines, it just a question of what guides the drawing of lines. I had a man tell me once that he didn’t believe in censorship. Well, of course he believed in censorship. I actually got him to admit that there were some things we should not be allowed to do/show in public (that’s called censoring them). We agree that certain lines should be drawn; it was just a question of where to draw them.
So who decides where the lines are drawn? We might think that “common sense” would give us a strong hint, but it is very evident that common sense is a flower that doesn’t grow in everyone’s garden. That’s the reason why we have uproar about which bathroom people should use and when it’s proper to kill a baby in the womb. It’s the reason we can have homosexual scoutmasters around impressionable young men. It’s the reason we can’t call someone “he” or “she” on some college campuses. It’s the reason that true hatred is flourishing between races.
You see, when God draws the lines, the lines are in the right place. When people seek Godliness they learn to value life, practice true love, seek what is good and pure, and find soul-satisfying happiness. Without God’s word to guide us, well….we are seeing what happens!
Say good things about your Savior and about His church here at Bluff Park!
