I became your pastor on September 1, 2006. That was 10 years ago. I still remember the first night in the parsonage, sleeping upstairs as we prepared for the movers to bring all our stuff the next day. It was an exciting time for us, yet it was a scary time, too. All the questions that I had asked my self prior to accepting you call as pastor returned; all of them. Was this really God’s will? Was it the right thing to do? What will the people be like? Will they accept us as family or relate to me as a hireling?
It doesn’t take a genius (thankfully) to figure out that all questions were answered in the best possible way. There is no doubt in my mind that this was God’s will and absolutely the right thing to do. The people that make up Bluff Park Baptist Church are just awesome. To put it another way…you guys rock! Your love for people, your work ethic, your willingness to try things, your concern for people….sometimes it just blows me away.
Have things been perfect? Of course not. We are human, after all. But we have allowed God to guide us through whatever rough spots we have encountered as we seek His will for what’s next. We may sometimes disagree and we may not always get things done the way we personally like, but the fellowship, the laughter, the joy, and the love is always present and evident. We work together to show Gods love to this community through our ministries.
We may not be the biggest church around and we may not be the richest but when someone walks through the doors of this building there can be no doubt that God loves them and that we love them. Each person feels welcome, comfortable, and accepted. They feel that way not only because they feel the presence of God in a building, but because they feel the presence of God in you!
So, 10 years behind us. Wow. Now let’s push forward again. Let’s continue to show what God can do through a loving and obedient church. Like the song says, I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow. I love each of you and I’m blessed to be your pastor!
Say something good about your Savior and about His church here in Bluff Park.
